There were a number of players that have passed through the locker room of the Kansas City Chiefs. While many of these players have been offensive players, there were a number of defensive players these are the players that helped to shape the Chiefs into being one of the best teams in the NFL. We will take a look at a few of these players and see why they were some of the players that stopped the offense when it mattered the most.

Willie Lanier
This is a man that made a huge impact on the football field when it came to dealing with the opponents that stood on the other side from him. He was so dominant that he had to have extra padding on his helmet to protect his opponents when they were being tackled by him. With a total of 27 interceptions and 18 recovered fumbles, Lanier became a force on the field. He was a player in every Pro Bowl that took place from 1968 all the way to 1975. That is as impressive of a stat as any other stat that he managed to gain.

Buck Buchanan
One thing that he was able to take pride in was the fact that he was the first player at #1 to be drafted. Buchanan was one of the forces to be reckoned with. One thing that made Buchanan stand out was his ability to break up a play before it was able to actually form. This was apparent in 1967 when he was able to bat down 16 passes from the defensive line. This made the the offense shiver when they would take the field as Buchanan was looking to put the hurt on someone. He would later go into the Hall of Fame in 1990 and pass away a couple of years later.

Emmitt Thomas
This was a man that proved big things come in small packages. Thomas was a five time Pro Bowl choice and was the leader for the Chiefs with a total of 58 interceptions. In 1974 he really took his game to new levels as he had a league best 12 interceptions that season.

Bobby Bell
This is again a man that proved that he had the heart of a lion when he took the field. Bell had 26 interceptions and managed to return six of these for a touchdown. That may not sound impressive, but all in all it is a massive accomplishment when a player is able to take an interception and turn it into a pick six opportunity. Going into the Hall of Fame in 1984 Bell became a Chiefs legend and cemented a place in Chiefs history.

Derrick Thomas
This has to be by far one of the best Chiefs to ever take the field for the team. Thomas was able to strip the ball from a player like no other person in the NFL. Thomas was able to amass 100 sacks ,a feat done only by a select number of other players in the league. Thomas led the team in sacks, fumble recoveries, safeties as well as forced fumbles to become larger than life on the field.

These are the players that have made the Chiefs one of the most dominant teams in the NFL. There are sure to be future Hall of Fame members that will come from the Chiefs locker room. The question is what defensive player will make their mark on the NFL? There is no doubt that this team will be able to produce a large number of players that can be a powerhouse on the field as well as off the field.
